US President Donald Trump has imposed tariffs on imports from eight European countries over their stance on Greenland. The tariffs will remain in place until a deal is reached to fully purchase the island, rising to 25% on June 1.

He wrote about this in Truth Social .

He stated that the US has been subsidizing Denmark and other EU countries for many years, and now Denmark allegedly cannot protect Greenland.

“They currently have only two dog teams as a means of protection, one of which was added recently. Only the United States of America, under the leadership of PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP, can play this game — and do it very successfully!” said US President Donald Trump.

Trump also noted that a number of European countries had sent representatives to Greenland “for unknown purposes,” which he said created an unacceptable level of risk.

“These countries, playing this very dangerous game, have created a level of risk that is unacceptable and unsustainable,” said US President Donald Trump.

The US President announced the introduction of a 10% tariff on goods from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Finland.

The duties will take effect on February 1, and from June 1 they will increase to 25%.

“This duty will be payable until an agreement is reached for the full and final purchase of Greenland. The United States has been trying to make this deal happen for over 150 years. Many presidents have tried to do it — and for good reason — but Denmark has always refused,” said US President Donald Trump.

Trump added that the tariff will remain in effect until an agreement is reached on the full and final purchase of Greenland.

“We are open to negotiations with Denmark and any of the countries that have been subject to tariffs,” said US President Donald Trump.

Recall, Trump stated the strategic importance of Greenland for the security of the United States.

It was previously reported that the goal of annexing Greenland to the United States has moved from rhetoric to official policy as the White House has begun implementing an official plan to acquire the Arctic island from Denmark .

At the same time, the Prime Minister of Denmark appealed to Trump to stop statements about the possible seizure of Greenland . She emphasized that talk of annexation of Greenland is baseless.

As is known, against the backdrop of US President Donald Trump’s statements regarding the seizure of Greenland , the Danish authorities are sending military equipment and defense forces to the island .
