On Thursday, May 14, US President Donald Trump held talks in Beijing with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. The key topics of the meeting were Taiwan, trade and global security.

Xi Jinping stressed during the talks that the Taiwan issue is the “most important” in US-China relations and directly affects the stability between the two countries. He warned that wrong decisions could lead to escalation or even conflict.
The Chinese leader also stated that the US and China should be partners, not rivals, and jointly respond to global challenges.
“I am ready to work with President Trump to properly guide the development of China-US relations and make 2026 a historic and landmark year for China-US relations, continuing the traditions of the past and opening up the future,” the Chinese leader said.
Among other topics discussed were trade, investment, technology, the supply of rare earth materials, China’s purchases of American goods, as well as the situation around Iran.
Recall, on Wednesday, May 13, US President Donald Trump arrived in China for a two-day visit , during which talks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping are planned.
