US President Donald Trump plans to send military aid to Ukraine for the first time since returning to the White House. According to Reuters, this decision will be implemented through the so-called presidential powers to reduce arms stocks, which were previously actively used by Joe Biden. The preliminary cost of the package could reach about $ 300 million.

According to the agency’s sources, the Trump administration is currently determining which types of weapons from American reserves can be transferred to Kyiv. The final decision has not yet been made. The specific composition of the package is expected to be discussed at a meeting on Thursday.
The list is likely to include Patriot interceptor missiles and medium-range munitions. If that happens, deliveries could begin within days, as some of the weapons are already in warehouses in Europe.
On Tuesday, Trump announced his intention to provide Ukraine with more weapons to counter threats from Russia.
Until now, the new administration has merely continued the transfer of military aid that was approved under President Biden. Now, this is a new initiative that, according to sources, indicates Trump’s increased attention to the security situation in Ukraine.
The United States has about $3.86 billion remaining available under the Presidential Assistance Program. The last funds from this program — $500 million — were allocated on January 9 by the Biden administration.
Reuters recalls that Trump’s position on supporting Ukraine was contradictory: on the one hand, he criticized the large US expenditures, on the other, he sometimes spoke out in support of Kyiv and criticized Moscow’s actions.
The Pentagon and the White House did not comment on the situation at the time of publication.
