US President Donald Trump said he could resolve the military conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan “very quickly.”
He said this on October 26 during the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit, Associated Press reports.
“I’ve heard that Pakistan and Afghanistan have started negotiations. But I’ll resolve this issue very quickly,” Trump said.
Tensions between the two countries have been simmering for years. Islamabad accuses Kabul of allowing terrorist groups to use Afghan territory to launch attacks on Pakistan.
The situation escalated in early October when Pakistan called on Afghanistan to stop harboring militants, and in response, Kabul accused its neighbor of violating its airspace and shelling border areas.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that India and Pakistan had agreed to a complete and immediate ceasefire.
Incidentally, during the latest escalation of the conflict with India, the Pakistani Armed Forces suffered significant losses : 11 soldiers were killed and another 78 were wounded.
