US President Donald Trump is ready to offer Ukraine security guarantees – but outside the North Atlantic Alliance.

This became known from conversations that the American leader had with representatives of European states and Kyiv, Politicoreports .

According to sources familiar with the phone calls, if a ceasefire is reached, the US could take on the role of a deterrent to prevent new Russian aggression. However, Trump has made it clear that such support should not be part of NATO mechanisms.

What exactly is meant by “security guarantees” is not specified. The talks only focused on the general concept of Ukraine’s defense after the end of hostilities. It is likely that the issue is political or economic instruments that could deter Moscow from a new invasion.

According to British officials, Trump is considering security guarantees as part of a possible “peaceful resolution” of the conflict. He has also stressed that the US role in the process is key – although at the same time he has made it clear that American military support for Ukraine may be significantly limited.

It is expected that in the event of a ceasefire, the US will not continue direct arms supplies to Kyiv, but may allow supplies through European countries – on terms of sale. According to preliminary information, the volume of this assistance will be significantly less than expected in Ukraine.

Such a position of Washington, if officially announced, may cause criticism among Kyiv’s allies, who hope for long-term and firm support from the United States.

As a reminder, US President Donald Trump said he was ready to organize a trilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin almost immediately after the summit in Alaska, if it “goes well.”

As reported, after a joint video call with US President Donald Trump, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and French President Emmanuel Macron held a joint press conference.
