Ukraine has been able to hold most of its key positions on the front, despite Donald Trump’s unfavourable rhetoric. The US president’s meeting with Vladimir Putin in Budapest will not necessarily mean defeat for Kyiv.
This is reported by CNN .
According to journalists, the last meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump was not fatal for Ukraine. Despite the difficult diplomatic situation, Kyiv was able to survive thanks to the support of its European allies.
Journalists recalled that in the spring and summer, Ukraine experienced a period when its main strategic partner, the United States, temporarily turned its back on it and tried to reach an agreement with Moscow. However, Europe then filled the vacuum of military and financial assistance.
“Previously, Zelensky was a global peddler of arguments in support of Ukraine’s defense and promotion of its accession to NATO. Now he travels to the Alliance member countries, presenting the most advanced Ukrainian drone technologies, which are developing rapidly,” the journalists noted.
Analysts have said that the improvement in relations between Zelensky and Trump is a positive signal for Ukraine. Although Kyiv has not yet received the “main prize” – a full-fledged military agreement with the United States, talks about a possible transfer of Tomahawk missiles indicate progress.
According to journalists, Ukraine already possesses weapons comparable to the Tomahawks – long-range drones of its own production. Also, Ukraine may even benefit from Trump’s initiatives to stop fighting on the current front lines.
Journalists expressed hope that weather conditions will continue to favor Ukrainian forces. Without leaves on the trees, it will be more difficult for Russian soldiers to camouflage themselves, and drones will be able to more easily detect targets.
In addition, Putin may be under increasing pressure from domestic economic problems, as well as external factors, including the position of India, which has reportedly refused to buy Russian oil.
It was previously reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a phone conversation with Donald Trump this week , put forward the idea that Kyiv hand over full control of the Donetsk region to Moscow as a condition for ending the war against Ukraine.
Recall that US President Donald Trump announced on September 16 that he would meet with the Kremlin leader in Hungary , without specifying the date. According to him, the purpose of the summit is to discuss possible ways to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. This will be preceded by a meeting of high-level advisers. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban offered himself as a mediator during the negotiations.
By the way, the planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin in Budapest has provoked a sharp reaction in the European Union. European diplomats believe that holding negotiations on the territory of an EU member state without the participation of Brussels is a humiliation for Europe and a “political nightmare.”
