US President Donald Trump has increased pressure on Ukraine to “quickly” reach a deal with Russia ahead of US-brokered talks in Geneva on Tuesday.
He made this statement in comments to reporters aboard Air Force One en route to Washington, The Guardian reports.
“Ukraine had better get to the negotiating table quickly,” the American leader said.
Previously, Moscow insisted on its demands for significant territorial and political concessions from Ukraine during the negotiations, which Kyiv rejected as tantamount to capitulation.
Trump’s chief envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner will be part of the US delegation, while former Russian Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky will lead the Moscow team.
As a reminder, the Ukrainian delegation has left for Geneva to participate in negotiations to end the war with the participation of representatives of Ukraine, the United States, and Russia. The meetings are scheduled for February 17-18.
As reported, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that during the talks in Geneva, the parties will consider a wider range of topics than during the previous consultations in Abu Dhabi.
