A US civil society group has sued Jared Kushner, son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, to prevent him from serving as special envoy for peace without disclosing his personal finances. The plaintiffs also point to potential conflicts of interest.

This was reported on its website by the organization Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW).

CREW believes that Kushner is effectively acting as a public servant, as he is the US’s chief negotiator on key foreign policy issues. Therefore, the organization believes that he should comply with relevant legal requirements, including those regarding financial disclosure.

The plaintiffs are asking the court to prohibit Kushner from continuing to serve in this role and to require him to file the required income tax returns.

CREW notes that since the beginning of Trump’s second presidential term, Kushner has had significant influence on diplomatic processes. He meets with foreign officials and represents the United States in negotiations aimed at ending the wars between the United States and Iran, Ukraine and Russia, as well as resolving violent conflicts in the Middle East.

Kushner also heads the investment firm Affinity Partners, which manages more than $6 billion in assets. About 99% of this money belongs to foreign investors, including sovereign wealth funds from Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. The company also has significant overseas investments, including in Israel.

CREW President Donald K. Sherman said Kushner must abide by the U.S. Constitution and federal law. He said participating in the Senate confirmation process and disclosing financial information would demonstrate transparency in his activities.

“Instead, he has chosen to act as if he is above the law and ignore it. The court cannot allow this to continue and must intervene,” Sherman stressed.

It was previously reported that the Ukrainian negotiating team will soon hold an online meeting with US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. During the conversation, the Ukrainian side plans to provide evidence of Russia’s violation of the energy truce previously announced by Donald Trump.

In addition, representatives of the United States, Ukraine and Europe met in Miami last week to discuss possible ways to end Russia’s war against Ukraine. Among the proposals is a partial ceasefire that would include an end to attacks on energy infrastructure and grain supplies. The American side is announcing new ideas designed to help advance the talks.
