US President Donald Trump made a number of contradictory statements about Ukraine, Crimea, and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Specifically, he claimed that Crimea is “surrounded by ocean on four sides” and claimed that former US President Barack Obama “gave” the peninsula to Russia.

He said this in an interview at the White House, as quoted by Politico.

“Crimea was the heart… I’m good at real estate. When I look at a map, I say, ‘Oh, this Crimea is so beautiful. It’s surrounded by ocean on all four sides.’ There’s only a small piece of land… Crimea is huge. But it connects that part of Ukraine we’re talking about now,” Trump said, mischaracterizing the peninsula’s geography.

In the same interview, Trump repeated the thesis that Ukraine’s membership in NATO was supposedly unrealistic long before Putin.

Speaking about Zelensky, the American leader again used a derogatory comparison, calling him “Phineas Taylor Barnum” – an American showman and businessman known for his hoaxes and the Barnum & Bailey circus.

“He’s a great salesman… one of the most brilliant people who could sell any product at any time,” Trump said, commenting on the president.

He also reiterated his claim that Zelenskyy allegedly pressured Biden to provide Ukraine with $350 billion in aid, adding, “And look what that got him. About 25% of his country disappeared.”

US President Donald Trump also stated that he believes it’s time for Ukraine to hold presidential elections. He made this statement in an interview with the White House.
