US President Donald Trump said that India has almost completely stopped purchasing Russian oil and will soon stop importing it altogether.

He said this on October 17 during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, answering questions from a journalist from Suspilny .

“India will no longer buy Russian oil. They have already reduced the volume and practically stopped. They are backing off. They were buying about 38% of the oil, but they will not do that anymore,” Trump said.

The American president also commented on the situation with Hungary, which continues to depend on Russian energy resources. According to him, Budapest’s difficult situation is explained by geographical factors and limited supply capabilities.

“Hungary is in a difficult position because it has one pipeline that has been in place for many, many years. And it is landlocked. […] You know, it is very difficult for them to get oil. I understand that,” the American leader added.

As a reminder, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised US President Donald Trump to reduce purchases of Russian oil , a resource that has so far remained one of the key financial sources for the war against Ukraine.

Russian oil traders are reportedly demanding that Indian state-owned companies switch to Chinese yuan payments instead of dollars or dirhams, a move that is expected to simplify financial transactions and minimize costs amid sanctions and geopolitical tensions.
