It is noted that the meeting is being convened by French President Emmanuel Macron. All participants in the talks in Washington, which took place on August 18, have been invited to Paris. Among them are US President Donald Trump, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is also likely to attend the talks.
The main topic will be the issue of security guarantees for Ukraine. Official Kyiv insists on the adoption of clear and binding decisions aimed at protecting against further Russian aggression. One of the options being considered is the creation of a large-scale peacekeeping mission with the participation of tens of thousands of military personnel under European leadership and with US support.
Last week, the defense ministers of the “coalition of the willing” countries held technical talks, where they identified key elements for a possible increase in military presence. As Ursula von der Leyen emphasized, any decision to send troops remains a sovereign step of each state, but the sense of urgency on this issue is very high.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously said he planned a series of meetings with European leaders in early September. He stressed the importance of agreeing on a common vision for future security guarantees and preparing for further negotiations at the highest level, including an upcoming meeting with Donald Trump.
It was previously reported that US President Donald Trump is not sure whether a bilateral meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin at the leadership level will take place.
Recall, Trump said that within the next two weeks it will become clear whether peace can be achieved in Ukraine . If this does not happen, he warned about the possibility of finding “another approach” to resolving the war.
