US President Donald Trump said he was ready to organize a trilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin almost immediately after the summit in Alaska if it “goes well.”
He said this during a briefing .
Trump said he was ready to hold a second meeting, this time in a trilateral format with the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
“If the first meeting goes well, the second meeting will be quick, I would like to have it almost immediately – between Putin, Zelensky and me, if they want me to be there,” Trump said.
According to him, the upcoming summit in Alaska should create the necessary preconditions for such a meeting. At the same time, the US president stressed that it may not take place if Putin insists on his own conditions that contradict the vision of the American side.
“There may not be a second meeting, if I feel that it should not be held because I will not hear the answers that I need to hear, then we will not have a second meeting,” he noted.
Trump also focused on today’s negotiations with Zelensky and European leaders, giving them very high marks.
“A very good conversation. I would rate it a ten,” the US president emphasized.
It is known that after his conversation with Putin on July 15, Trump plans to organize a meeting between Zelensky and Putin . Work is already underway in the US to have this meeting take place next week.
Earlier, during a discussion with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders, US President Donald Trump expressed the opinion that as part of a potential peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia, “territory exchanges are needed.” Zelensky responded that “Putin cannot be trusted” and insisted on holding a trilateral summit involving the US, Ukraine, and Russia.
It is worth adding that after a joint video call with US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and French President Emmanuel Macron held a joint press conference.
As a reminder, Trump announced that he would travel to Russia on Friday, August 15, where he plans to meet with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. It later became known that Trump and Putin would meet at Elmendorf-Richardson Air Force Base in Anchorage.
By the way, European leaders issued a joint statement in support of Ukraine ahead of Donald Trump’s planned meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin . 26 of the 27 leaders of the European Union have made their position public – with the exception of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
