US President Donald Trump is determined to quickly conclude a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia, which could mean increased pressure on Kyiv and demands for concessions on the issue of territories.
This is reported by Bloomberg .
As is known, Trump will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and a number of European leaders in Washington. During these talks, it is planned to discuss the previous developments that Trump discussed with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin a few days ago in Alaska.
Journalist sources suggest that the US may focus on Moscow’s territorial demands, while the Ukrainian side will seek security guarantees and clear commitments from the West. This creates serious risks for Kyiv, as the allies’ positions remain heterogeneous.
“Allies are concerned that they have few options to counter Trump’s pressure. They doubt that Putin truly wants peace, and at the same time they do not have a single answer to his demands,” the material notes.
Another challenge, the sources emphasize, is Trump himself: he wants quick results, but does not offer a clear plan on how to achieve peace. In telephone conversations with partners, the American president emphasized that the United States is ready to participate in Ukraine’s security guarantees, but expects Kyiv to make concessions and agree to an agreement as soon as possible.
In particular, Trump is insisting that the meeting between Zelensky and Putin take place within a week. At the same time, European leaders consider such a timeframe unrealistic, given the number of unresolved issues and the lack of trust in the Kremlin’s intentions.
As is known, on August 18, in Washington, US President Donald Trump will first meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky , and later they will be joined by European leaders and the NATO Secretary General.
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a visit to the White House , where he plans to discuss the details of a potential trilateral meeting with Donald Trump.
By the way, European allies plan to support Volodymyr Zelensky during his visit to the United States in order to strengthen his position in negotiations with Donald Trump and avoid possible conflicts in the White House.
We would like to remind you that the meeting between Zelensky and Trump will be attended by a number of world leaders , including the President of the European Commission, the Secretary General of NATO, the presidents of France, Germany, and Finland, as well as the prime ministers of Great Britain and Italy.
