US President Donald Trump has announced a “historic” oil deal with Venezuela that will give the US control of a large portion of its proven reserves. According to US sources, the US will receive 55% of the joint venture, which will be granted a 100-year concession to develop the oil fields.

Trump stated that the American side has secured majority control over more than 65 billion barrels of proven oil reserves at no cost to the US budget.

According to journalists in the US administration, Venezuela’s interim president Delcy Rodriguez has granted a newly formed private joint venture a 100-year concession to develop the fields. Oil reserves in these areas are estimated at 63 billion barrels.

Under the deal, the US government will take a 55% stake in the entity, which US officials said would become the second-largest corporate owner of proven oil reserves in the world, after Saudi Aramco.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the agreement would provide significant investment in Venezuela.

“For the Venezuelan people, this agreement will bring nearly $100 billion in private investment, support thousands of high-paying jobs, and contribute to the rebuilding of Venezuela’s economy,” Rubio said.

At the same time, it is currently unknown which companies will participate in the project. Only a few foreign oil and gas companies continue to operate in Venezuela, including the American Chevron, the Spanish Repsol, and the Italian Eni.

Most other major foreign players left Venezuela nearly 20 years ago after the nationalization of assets under former President Hugo Chavez.

Venezuela has the world’s largest proven oil reserves, more than 300 billion barrels, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. However, the country’s oil industry has long been in decline due to insufficient funding, dilapidated infrastructure and international restrictions.

By the way, White House President Donald Trump called the Strait of Hormuz “new territory of the United States.”

Recall that the administration of US President Donald Trump has instructed intelligence servicesto find a politician in Cuba who would be willing to cooperate with Washington . At the same time, American intelligence believes that representatives of more rigid political factions predominate among potential successors.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump stated that Washington supports the Cuban people and is participating in the “liberation” of Cuba.
