US President Donald Trump may recognize Russian control over part of the Ukrainian regions that are currently under occupation.

This was reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s terms are likely to include formal recognition of Russian control over some of the captured territories in exchange for a withdrawal of troops from other regions, European and Ukrainian officials said. Trump, who is eager to make deals, may in turn accept the Kremlin leader’s offer.

However, it is noted that Ukraine and most European allies are unlikely to accept such conditions.

Then the American president could accuse Kyiv of wanting to continue fighting. As a result, Trump would likely cut military aid to Ukraine, including intelligence. Ultimately, the US could withdraw from the diplomatic process altogether.

At the same time, people close to Trump are convinced that he will strive to achieve the “most valuable” deal.

“He wants to be the deal-maker. That’s his brand,” assured Marc Short, a senior White House aide during his first term.

As a reminder, Ukraine has declared its readiness for a ceasefire along the entire front line , but will categorically not recognize Russian control over the occupied territories, as this contradicts the country’s Constitution.

US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are reportedly set to meet next week to discuss a potential peace deal over the war in Ukraine. However, analysts say the sides have fundamentally different positions and the likelihood of a real truce remains low.

By the way, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that after a conversation with Donald Trump, Russia is demonstrating greater readiness for a ceasefire .
