Ukrainian politicians are discussing the possible arrival of Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who represent Donald Trump’s entourage, to the capital. The trip could take place in the coming weeks, but its feasibility depends on the parties’ willingness to make concessions.

Diplomat Konstantin Yeliseyev warned on the air of “Pryamoye” that the logic of “business diplomacy” guided by these individuals is often based on false trust in Russian proposals.

“It is fundamentally important for us to change this philosophy and switch to the philosophy that, by the way, Trump is promoting in the Middle East,” emphasized Yeliseyev. He explained that unlike the Middle East approach, where silence is initially demanded, in the Ukrainian context they are trying to impose an agreement before the actual cessation of shelling.

US representatives may view Ukraine as an obstacle to large-scale commercial projects with Russia, so the main task of the Ukrainian side remains to join forces with Western partners to force the aggressor to make peace, the diplomat is convinced.

According to him, further developments will be determined by the ability of the negotiating groups to agree on the parameters of security guarantees for the state.

Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed hope that US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would visit Kyiv within two weeks. The head of state noted that Ukrainians “need to see the American negotiating team in Ukraine.”

Instead, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio previously stated that trilateral talks between Ukraine, the US, and Russia to end the war are currently “on pause.” Washington allows them to resume if the talks are productive.

As a reminder, the head of the Presidential Office, Kirill Budanov, recently stated that the negotiation process between Ukraine and Russia has not reached a dead end . Despite the pause at the highest level, contacts between the parties continue.

Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the war against Ukraine could allegedly end “by the end of the day” if Kyiv agrees to fulfill Moscow’s demands and withdraw troops from the territories occupied by Russia.
