Donald Trump said that special envoy Steve Witkoff has received an official request from the Russian side for a meeting. According to him, the visit could take place as early as Wednesday or Thursday of this week.

He stressed that Witkoff is currently focused on a humanitarian mission in the Gaza Strip, where he is coordinating the delivery of food to the local population. At the same time, if the trip to Moscow takes place, it will be dedicated to finding peaceful solutions and possible agreements that will stop the death of people in Ukraine.

The American president recalled that new sanctions could be imposed on Russia as early as Friday if it does not agree to the proposed terms for ending the war.

“They would like to see him. They asked for a meeting. So we’ll see what happens,” Trump said, adding that the Kremlin is “pretty good at avoiding sanctions.”

Speaking about the course of the war, Trump emphasized that Russia is losing significantly more soldiers than Ukraine, but both sides are suffering heavy casualties, and Ukrainian cities continue to suffer from missile strikes.

He also stated that under his leadership, the United States has already stopped a number of international conflicts, including between India and Pakistan, as well as Cambodia and Thailand, and promised to make every effort to end the war in Ukraine.

The day before, it became known that US President Donald Trump announced a new visit by special envoy Stephen Witkoff to Russia during a briefing in the Oval Office.

As a reminder, the administration of US President Donald Trump held regular talks with Russian representatives this week, trying to find ways to end the war in Ukraine. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the dialogue has not yielded any tangible results, and Moscow continues to shell Ukrainian cities with missiles.

As previously reported, real peace talks between Ukraine and Russia are unlikely until the fall. After all, Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin is not interested in ending the war, and pressure from the US and China is needed to change his position. By the way, the administration of US President Donald Trump is not satisfied with the style of negotiations of special representative Steve Witkoff with Russia and Iran.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that Russia has 10 days to reach an agreement on the war in Ukraine , and if it refuses, Washington will impose new economic restrictions.
