Hungary has blocked access to 12 Ukrainian news websites, citing the “principle of reciprocity” after Ukraine restricted the work of two pro-Russian Hungarian publications, Origo and Demokrata.

The blocking was announced by the chief of staff of the Hungarian Prime Minister, Gergely Gulyás, on Facebook.

He recalled that Kyiv had previously blocked Hungarian resources due to their rhetoric regarding sanctions against Russia, support for Ukraine, and critical assessments of the activities of the EU and NATO.

In response, Budapest banned a number of Ukrainian portals, including:

  • NV.ua
  • oboz.ua
  • anons-zak.com.ua
  • ungvar.uz.ua
  • zakarpattya.net.ua
  • pravda.com.ua
  • hromadske.ua
  • tsn.ua
  • lb.ua
  • insiderinfo.com.ua
  • uaonline.com.ua
  • eurointegration.com.ua

“Following the principle of reciprocity, Hungary today introduces mirror measures against Ukrainian news portals, so they will not be available on the territory of Hungary,” Gulyas wrote on Facebook.

He also added that the real censorship, in his opinion, lies in the influence of George Soros and his supporters on the domestic politics of sovereign states.

As is known, the European Commission has developed a document proposing to change the procedure for adopting sanctions against Russia. Instead of a unanimous decision, they propose introducing qualified majority voting to avoid blocking by Hungary .

As a reminder, Hungary stated that it would not support the opening of the first stage of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU .
