Turn off the tap: Poroshenko told how Ukraine can defeat Russia in a war of attrition
After Russia’s plans for a quick victory failed, it switched to a war of attrition. Petro Poroshenko, in a final interview on the Pryamy TV channel, explained how Ukraine can survive this struggle and outsmart the aggressor.
“A war of endurance is now being fought by both Ukraine, which is having a very difficult time and which surprises the world, and Russia. We are told that Russia is big, it has great potential, it has an unstoppable army, it has, unlike us, an economy that is geared towards military purposes. And it is all true. Don’t believe anyone who tries to put on rose-colored glasses for you. But it is also fading. And we need to be stronger, more responsible, so as not to fade away before Russia,” Poroshenko believes.
He explained that Russia has almost completely used up its sovereign wealth fund reserves, it has over three hundred billion dollars blocked in Western banks, and has now begun selling monetary gold, its gold reserve, not its gold reserve.
“It started selling it on the domestic market. And the countries that buy Russian gold the most today. Number one is India. They buy hundreds of tons of gold. Number two are the Gulf countries. These are the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman. This means that the Russians have nothing left to sell,” Poroshenko stated.
The fifth president emphasized that Ukraine needs to “block the currency flows that are coming to Russia.”
“Do you know how much Russian oil of the Urals brand costs now? That just recently it cost 80, and today it costs 40. And 40, if you pump Russian oil from Western Siberia, is its cost price. And if you add to that the cost of freight, when the Security Service of Ukraine, the Main Intelligence Directorate, the Special Operations Forces successfully attack the Russian shadow fleet, and the Americans send congratulations, detaining Venezuelan tankers,” Poroshenko said.
“And if we block the oil, including voting on the resolution introduced by Poroshenko and European Solidarity to stop the transit of Russian oil through the territory of Ukraine for Hungary and Slovakia – because this gives Russia $7 billion a year, or 231 thousand barrels a day. Russia receives $21 million a day for transit through the territory of Ukraine. This is terrible,” the party leader was indignant.
He noted that Russia must be forced to agree to a ceasefire during negotiations, or hellish sanctions will be applied against it, and Ukraine will receive long-range weapons.
“Then I have some reason for optimism that Ukraine will survive if we are responsible, mature and united. Russia will lose because of the combination of sanctions, long-range weapons, which Senator Lindsey Graham is talking about. These should also be German Taurus, I spoke with the Chancellor, the Foreign Minister, and the military. This is completely realistic. And air defense missiles, and air-to-ground missiles, and all that kind of thing,” Poroshenko added.
According to him, this means that it is difficult for Ukraine, but it is not easy for the Russians, and we will endure.
“Although it will not be easy, and I do not promise anything easy, we will endure, because we are fighting for our land. And the Russians are occupiers, invaders and criminals,” Petro Poroshenko concluded.
