TV is more important than bread: Kremlin doubles propaganda spending

In 2026, the Kremlin will spend twice as much on television propaganda as it planned: more than 106 billion rubles (about $1.27 billion) will go to finance federal TV channels, including entertainment shows and the regime’s main mouthpieces.

This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation, referring to the updated Russian budget.

Who got the most:

TV channels “Pervy”, “Russia 1”, NTV;

so-called “secondary” channels will also receive double funding;

Subsidies increased by 54% compared to previously planned figures.

Paradox: while social spending is being cut and the budget is bursting with deficit, the authorities find billions to zombify the population on television.

Between 2026 and 2028, the Russian Federation plans to invest more than 246 billion rubles (almost $3 billion) in television propaganda.

The CPD emphasizes that the Kremlin’s media machine remains a key tool for maintaining power. It is thanks to television that millions of Russians agree to live in poverty, die at the front, and support a course that is leading Russia to self-destruction.

Recall that in 2026, Russia plans to reduce defense spending and social benefits for the military, but instead will significantly increase funding for state propaganda.
