On the night of Thursday, October 8, the Ukrainian Defense Forces reportedly attacked two important industrial facilities in Russia — the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat oil refining complex in Bashkortostan and the Sasta plant in the Ryazan region. Fires were reported on the territory of both enterprises.

Russian and Ukrainian monitoring resources are reporting an attack on Russian facilities.

Explosions were heard in Salavat, Bashkortostan at night, after which there were reports of a fire in the area of the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat complex. According to preliminary information, the enterprise was targeted by drones. There is currently no official data on the nature of the damage.

Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat is part of the Gazprom Group and is one of the largest oil refining and petrochemical complexes in Russia. The enterprise has been operating since 1948, and its territory includes oil refining and gas chemical plants, as well as the Monomer plant.

The refinery has a capacity of up to 10 million tons of hydrocarbon raw materials per year. The enterprise produces motor gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, sulfur and other petrochemical products – a total of over 150 types of goods.

Another attack occurred in Sasovo, Ryazan Region. There, a fire broke out on the territory of the Sasta machine tool factory. The Yandex DC Sasovo data center is located on the same industrial site.

The Sasta plant specializes in the production of CNC machine tools. The company’s equipment is used in Russia’s defense, aerospace, transport, and heavy industries. The plant is under international sanctions.

Following the attack, Yandex reported power problems at its data center and outages in some Yandex Cloud services. The company warned customers about possible outages in certain availability zones.

The extent of damage to Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat and the Sasta plant is currently being clarified.

As a reminder, on October 6 and the night of October 7, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck a number of Russian military facilities in the occupied territories of Ukraine and in the Bryansk region of the Russian Federation. Among the targets were an airfield, a radar station, electronic warfare equipment, warehouses, and drone control points.

As reported, the Ukrainian military confirmed damage to Russian oil and gas infrastructure after strikes on the Samara oil and gas processing plant in Samara region and the Astrakhansky gas processing plant in Astrakhan . Tanks, pipelines, and production equipment were damaged at the facilities.
