Two police officers killed in Svyatogorsk, Donetsk region, due to Russian shelling

In Svyatogorsk, Donetsk region, while on duty, police captain Roman Penkov and senior police sergeant Valentin Gavrish were killed as a result of Russian shelling.

This was reported by the Donetsk region police.

“The car in which the law enforcement officers were traveling came under enemy fire. Senior district officer of police department No. 4 (Slovyansk) of Kramatorsk RUP Roman Penkov and police driver of the local police security unit Valentin Gavrish were fatally wounded,” the statement said.

Penkov is originally from Raigorodok in the Kramatorsk district. “As a district police officer, he knew every inch of his native territory and was the first to come to the aid of people,” the statement says.

The policeman is survived by his parents, wife and seven-year-old daughter.

Valentin Gavrish was born in Novoselovka, Limansky district. He joined the National Police in 2019. Since September 2021, he worked as a police driver in the response platoon of the Sloviansk city department of the Mariupol interdistrict department of the Security Police Department in Donetsk region.

“He was a loving son, brother and husband,” police said.
