Two residents of Izmail tried to legalize Starlink for the Russian Federation

Counterintelligence and cyber specialists of the SBU detained two Ukrainian citizens who agreed to register Starlink for the Russian occupiers. They face life imprisonment.

This was reported by the press service of the SBU.

The enemy recruited two Ukrainian citizens to illegally register Starlink systems.

According to the investigation, they turned out to be two residents of Izmail: a 36-year-old unemployed man and his 28-year-old unemployed roommate. They came into the “field of view” of the occupiers through Telegram channels in search of “easy money.”

As the investigation established, representatives of the aggressor state offered the attackers $30 for the illegal registration of each Starlink terminal used by representatives of the Russian Federation.

In order to activate more such devices, the suspects tried to involve other people in the scheme. In particular, it was established that they intended to recruit one of the local drug addicts for the “trip to the ASN”.

“SBU officers acted proactively and detained both recruits. During the searches, mobile phones with evidence of working for the enemy were seized from them. Among other things, correspondence with Russian curators, instructions on the mechanism for legalizing equipment, as well as agreement on methods of receiving rewards were documented on the electronic devices of the suspects,” the post says.

SBU investigators informed the detainees of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 28 and Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law by prior conspiracy by a group of persons).

The sanction of the article provides for a penalty of life imprisonment.

Currently, both defendants have been remanded in custody as a preventive measure.

Comprehensive measures were carried out under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor’s office.

Recall that the Russian military began to put pressure on the families of Ukrainian prisoners, forcing them to register Starlink satellite terminals in their own names.

As reported, the Russian military is trying to recruit Ukrainian citizens to illegally activate Starlink terminals through state services . For participation in the scheme, the occupiers are offering a reward of up to 10,000 hryvnias.
