UEFA has published the preliminary allocation of places between countries in European competitions for the 2027/2028 season. Russia is still included in the organization’s document, despite the suspension of its clubs from international tournaments.
According to published data, if admitted, Russian teams could potentially receive four places in European competitions.
The Russian champion will be able to start playing in the first qualifying round of the Champions League. The winner of the domestic Cup will have the opportunity to start in the Europa League qualifiers.
Two more Russian teams — the silver and bronze medalists of the championship — could potentially receive places in the second qualifying round of the Conference League.
However, this list does not mean that Russian clubs have already been allowed to participate in the tournaments. The distribution is preliminary. If the suspension of Russian teams remains in force, Russia may be removed from the list.
Russian national teams and clubs have not participated in UEFA and FIFA tournaments since 2022. They were banned from international competitions after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Because of this, the Russian national team missed the qualifying playoffs for the 2022 World Cup, Euro 2024, the 2026 World Cup, and several Nations League matches.
