Ukraine and Finland have signed 3 memorandums of understanding on cooperation in the field of defense technologies on land, at sea and in the air. The documents provide for the joint development and production of drones, the development of maritime unmanned systems and the creation of an enterprise for the production of ground robotic complexes.
This was reported by the press service of the President’s Office.
The documents were signed during a roundtable meeting on Ukrainian-Finnish cooperation in the defense industry with the participation of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and President of Finland Alexander Stubb.
Representatives of 7 Finnish companies also participated in the event: Boomeranger, Insta, Patria, Nokia, Nest AI, Sensofusion, and ICEYE.
“From the very beginning of this war, you have been with us. And now, when our military and defense sector has grown, we can cooperate, we have started joint production, and we have not only agreements, not only papers – we have real tools and there are already real results,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
According to the President of Ukraine, the new agreements should combine Ukraine’s combat experience with Finnish technologies.
The documents provide for cooperation in 3 areas:
- development and production in Finland of drones for the needs of Ukraine and Europe;
- building capabilities in the field of maritime unmanned systems;
- creation of an enterprise for the production of ground robotic complexes.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb said that Ukraine has the best capabilities in Europe to wage modern warfare, and cooperation between the countries will strengthen the security of both states.
“Today’s meeting is truly mutually beneficial. In the sense that in the short term we can help you as much as we can, and in the long term you will help us as much as we can,” Stubb emphasized.
He also noted that cooperation covers not only land, sea, and air technologies, but also cyberspace and space.
“And all of this together, in fact, forms a comprehensive package. It is very easy for us to work together because at the political level we are finalizing the Drone Deal and, of course, we already have a broad security agreement that we signed several years ago,” the Finnish president added.
Previously, Finland announced an additional contribution of 40 million euros to the PURL initiative , which involves the purchase of American weapons for Ukraine.
