Ukraine and Germany discuss mechanism for returning men of mobilization age: what is known

Ukraine and Germany are discussing within the working group the mechanism for the return of Ukrainians of mobilization age who illegally left abroad.

This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to the Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany, Oleksiy Makeyev.

He noted that Unity Hub centers have become one of the key tools for interacting with the Ukrainian community.

“We are grateful to the Germans for helping to develop the idea of creating centers for Ukrainians — Unity Hub. The first one has already opened in the center of Berlin and is gradually filling with activity. For example, I personally visited there in the first days of work. There were representatives of the Pension Fund, to whom queues of Ukrainian pensioners with specific questions immediately lined up,” Makeyev commented.

According to him, the creation of such centers helps the state be closer to its citizens.

“The state is present here. It is expanding the range of services it can provide. Ukrainian citizens also get more opportunities to communicate with each other. Ukrainian public organizations in Germany have the opportunity to get premises for work. Therefore, this is a very good innovation,” the ambassador noted.

He also emphasized that the work to coordinate the return of Ukrainians has two main components.

“The first is Unity Hub, that is, the work of our state with the Ukrainian community, when we explain what opportunities exist. The second is to understand how we can facilitate the return together with the Germans. Therefore, a working group has been created between Ukrainian and German departments, where information is exchanged,” he added.

Oleksiy Makeyev also added that it is important for Kyiv to understand how the structure of the Ukrainian community in Germany is built.

According to him, the share of those who work and pay social contributions, and not just receive assistance, is currently increasing significantly. Makeyev added that these are not yet the same figures as in Poland, but a large share of Ukrainians have already integrated.

“We have to know our audience. Today, about 1.3 million Ukrainians are in Germany,” Makeyev said.

It was previously reported that European countries are gradually changing their approach to the stay of Ukrainians who left due to the war . The State Migration Service of Ukraine says that EU countries are increasingly trying not to increase the number of Ukrainian citizens on their territory and are reviewing the rules of temporary protection.
