Ukraine and Hungary agreed to new negotiations on the minority in Transcarpathia.

Ukraine and Hungary will hold a new round of expert consultations to find solutions to the rights of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia.

This was announced by Foreign Ministers Andrej Sybiha and Anita Orbán .

Sybiha stated that Ukraine is ready to work with the new Hungarian government on all issues of bilateral relations, including national minorities, in order to restore trust and good-neighborly relations between the countries.

According to him, the goal of the consultations is to achieve solutions that meet European standards and practices.

The Hungarian side announced that both countries have already formed a delegation for the negotiations. Initial consultations will be held online, and the negotiation process itself could begin as early as May 19.

Orbán expressed hope that the dialogue would be constructive and would help achieve tangible progress for the Hungarian community in Transcarpathia.

The parties also discussed Ukraine’s European integration. Sybiga emphasized Kyiv’s interest in the prompt opening of negotiating clusters on joining the European Union .

Previously, the Hungarian government had long blocked the start of EU-Ukraine membership negotiations.
