Ukraine and nine European countries have created an anti-ballistic missile coalition. The first meeting was held on July 13 in Paris with the participation of state leaders, representatives of the EU, NATO, and defense companies.

This was reported by the press service of the Elysee Palace.

“We, the leaders of Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine and the United Kingdom, recognizing the growing threat of ballistic missiles and the increasing importance of defense capabilities for the security of the European continent, today announce the creation of a purely defensive coalition against ballistic missiles,” the statement said.

It is noted that one of the key tasks of the coalition is the integration of the European defense-industrial and technological base, which is engaged in the production of anti-ballistic systems and missiles for them, with the Ukrainian defense industry for the further creation of a new European product.

The meeting was also attended by three heads of European institutions: European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President António Costa, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

Ukraine was represented at the meeting by Fire Point, represented by CEO and CTO Iryna Terek. Representatives of leading defense companies were also present: Destinus — President and Chairman of the Board Oleksandr Danyliuk, Diehl Defence — company representative Uwe Slansky, Eurosam — Managing Director Anne Diaz de Tuesta, Hensoldt — CEO Oliver Djorre, Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace — President Kjetil Reiten Mira, Leonardo — company representative Corrado Falco, MBDA — CEO Eric Berranger, Safran — Vice President and Head of Defense Division Alexander Ziegler, Saab — CEO Mikael Johansson, SENER — CEO Jose Julian Echevarria, Thales — Vice President Hervé Dammann, Weibel — Vice President for Sales and Measurements Torben Dier.

In particular, European states welcomed “Ukraine’s unique experience gained during defense against Russian aggression” and emphasized that the newly created coalition is exclusively defensive in nature and is not directed against any people.

It was previously reported that a meeting of the “Coalition of the Willing” will be held in Paris on July 13 , during which the allies will discuss strengthening Ukraine’s air defense. The European Union also plans to adopt the 21st package of sanctions against Russia next week.
