Ukraine and Norway are working to accelerate the European anti-ballistic missile program FREYJA to begin testing its elements by the end of 2026.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this after a meeting with Norwegian Defense Minister Tore Sandvik, CEO of Kongsberg Eirik Lee, and representatives of the corporation.

According to the head of state, Norway is actively participating in the development of FREYJA. Individual elements of the future system already have initial results, and during the negotiations the parties determined how to accelerate further work.

Zelensky also discussed defense assistance to Ukraine with partners. Kongsberg produces NASAMS air defense systems, which the Ukrainian military uses to protect against Russian missiles and drones.

The President expressed hope that Ukraine will receive additional defense support packages in November. He did not specify their composition.

A separate topic of the meeting was the creation of new satellite communication capabilities for the Ukrainian military. It is planned to involve partners who have the appropriate technologies in this work.

Recall, on September 29, Ukraine received a new package of missiles for the NASAMS systems . Zelenskyy then announced the preparation of new negotiations with partners on strengthening air defense.

In addition, Canada previously announced its readiness to join the FREYJA anti-ballistic program . This is a technological participation in a joint project to develop a missile defense system.
