Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced in Doha that Ukraine and Qatar have signed a defense agreement for a period of at least 10 years. The document provides for the development of cooperation in the field of security and the defense industry.

This was reported by the Office of the President of Ukraine.

As part of his visit to Qatar, Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, as well as with the participation of the country’s Prime Minister, Muhammad bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

As a result of the negotiations, the parties agreed on a mutually beneficial partnership in the defense sector for a period of at least 10 years, and the Chiefs of General Staff signed a corresponding intergovernmental agreement.

Among the key areas of cooperation:

  • development of defense industry and technologies;
  • air defense;
  • countering drones;
  • military training;
  • exchange of experience;
  • cybersecurity;
  • artificial intelligence and control systems.

The agreement also provides for the implementation of joint projects, the creation of co-productions and technological partnerships between the companies.

“We hope that by the time of our next meeting, the situation in the world will be completely different. We really want both wars – Russia against Ukraine, and the war here in the Middle East and the Gulf region – to end as soon as possible,” said the Emir of the State of Qatar.

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov noted that the agreement defines the framework for long-term cooperation in the security sector.

“The document also provides for the development of joint projects, technological cooperation, and attracting investments in security solutions. We are consistently expanding Ukraine’s partnership in the region,” said Rustem Umerov.

On the eve, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced negotiations with Middle Eastern countries on the supply of diesel fuel amid the risk of fuel shortages. Ukraine is offering security assistance in exchange for energy resources.
