Ukraine and Russia exchange prisoners: 205 people were returned

On Thursday, October 2, Ukraine and the Russian Federation exchanged prisoners – 185 defenders returned from Russian captivity.

This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Among the people who were returned were servicemen of the Armed Forces, the National Guard, and the State Border Service. Of these, 183 soldiers were privates, sergeants, and two were officers.

According to Zelensky, the majority had been in captivity since 2022. Before being captured by the enemy, they defended Mariupol, Azovstal, and the Chernobyl NPP.

20 civilians returned home with the military.

As assured by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, all those released will undergo a full medical examination, receive assistance with physical and psychological rehabilitation, and payments provided by the state.

“Thank you to everyone who makes the exchanges possible. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, we have managed to return home more than 7 thousand of our people. We must return everyone. We are working on this every day,” the president emphasized.

Zelenskyy previously stated thatthe heads of the Ukrainian and Russian negotiating teams are in constant contact and are preparing a new large-scale prisoner exchange.

As a reminder, on August 24, Ukraine and Russia held another prisoner exchange , in particular, they managed to return military personnel and civilians home.

As is known, on August 14 , another 84 people were returned to Ukraine from Russian captivity . These are military and civilians, almost all of whom need medical assistance.
