Today, February 5, Ukraine and Russia exchanged prisoners, and 157 Defense Forces soldiers were returned home.

This was confirmed by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

As is known, among the returned military personnel are representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, and the State Border Service; they fought in the Luhansk, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhia, Kherson, Sumy, and Kyiv directions.

Most of them were captured during the defense of Mariupol in 2022.

In addition to soldiers and sergeants, officers were also dismissed, the Coordination Headquarters noted .

Separately, it is noted that illegally convicted Ukrainians were returned to Ukraine. In particular, the youngest released defender was 23 years old, he was sentenced to life imprisonment in Russia. The soldier was captured at the age of 19.

Ukraine transferred the same number of soldiers from the Russian army to the Russian side.

The exchange agreement was reached during trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi, the US special representative reported .
