Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that a meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia is not yet possible, since the parties are “not yet ready” for dialogue at the highest level.
He told journalists about this upon returning from China, Reuters reports.
Erdogan said he held talks with Vladimir Putin in Beijing and then spoke with Volodymyr Zelensky. Both conversations touched on possible ways to end the war.
The Turkish leader stressed that the recent negotiations between representatives of Kyiv and Moscow in Istanbul indicate that there remains a chance for a diplomatic settlement.
At the same time, he stressed that Ankara is in favor of gradually raising the level of negotiations, but there are no prerequisites for a meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia yet.
Incidentally, US President Donald Trump said he would not like to attend a leaders’ meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
Let us recall that Vladimir Zelensky believes that Russia is doing everything to ensure that his meeting with Putin does not take place .
Earlier it was reported that a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian leader Vladimir Putin could take place in the coming weeks . According to European diplomatic sources, Hungary is being considered as a potential venue for the talks.
