The Ukrainian delegation will hold a new round of security consultations with partners in the United States today, December 19. The negotiations were led by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov.
Umerov announced this on his social networks.
The delegation also included the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Andriy Hnatov. According to the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, the consultations are taking place in an expanded format – at the invitation of Washington, representatives of European partner countries joined them.
“We thank the US for the coordination, which allows us to maintain a common vision and move in a coordinated manner,” Umerov noted.
The Ukrainian side has already held preliminary consultations with European colleagues and is preparing for negotiations with the American side.
“We are acting clearly in accordance with the priorities set by the president: Ukraine’s security must be guaranteed reliably and in the long term,” the NSDC Secretary emphasized.
After the visit, the Ukrainian delegation will present a report to President Volodymyr Zelensky. The talks are taking place against the backdrop of intensified diplomatic efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities and form a system of long-term security guarantees.
As a reminder, Ukraine and the United States plan to hold a new round of negotiations as part of the preparation of a potential peace agreement.
