Ukraine and the US held consultations on security guarantees: first details

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov reported on the two-day consultations of the Ukrainian delegation in the United States with the participation of representatives of the American side. The parties discussed economic development, security guarantees for Ukraine, and agreed to continue the work.

Umerov informed that for two days in the United States he worked together with Kirill Budanov and David Arakhamia.
On the American side, the consultations were attended by Stephen Witkoff, Jared Kushner, US Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll, and White House staffer Josh Gruenbaum.
During the meetings, the parties substantively discussed issues of economic development and the prosperity plan, as well as security guarantees for Ukraine, with a focus on practical mechanisms for their implementation and realization.
The Ukrainian delegation informed American partners about recent Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
Following the consultations, the parties agreed to continue work at the team level during the next stage of negotiations, which is planned in Davos.
At the same time, the President of Ukraine also spoke about the progress of the negotiations.
“Today there were reports from our delegation from America. Rustem Umerov reported on meetings with representatives of President Trump. There have already been several rounds of negotiations. They are working. They are working on documents that are needed to end the war. It is important that the Ukrainian team fully informs the American side about what is happening in Ukraine and about the constant Russian attacks on our energy system,” he said.
The day before, it became known that on January 17, negotiations were held in the United States between the Ukrainian delegation and the American team regarding the future security architecture and long-term economic development of Ukraine.
Zelenskyy previously stated that Ukraine is discussing a possible free trade agreement with the United States .
Recall that Ukraine, together with the United States of America, plans to create a number of investment funds , in particular the American-Ukrainian fund for the reconstruction of the country after the war.
