Ukraine calls for emergency UN Security Council meeting amid massive Russian attack
An emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council will be held on Friday, August 29. It is being convened at the request of Ukraine.
This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting, which will begin at 10:00 p.m. Kyiv time, will discuss the massive Russian attack on Ukraine carried out on August 28.
Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga called on the members of the UN Security Council to express support for Ukraine during the meeting, as well as to increase pressure on Russia through new sanctions.
“The meeting is a response to another massive wave of Russian missile and drone attacks on Kyiv and other cities in Ukraine. These strikes have resulted in dozens of civilian casualties, including children,” the minister stressed.
As a reminder, on the night of August 28, Kyiv suffered one of the largest attacks in recent months . Russian forces simultaneously used strike drones, ballistic and cruise missiles, which led to large-scale destruction in several areas of the city.
By the way, on August 29, emergency search operations were completed in Kyiv at the site of a Russian missile strike on a residential building.
