The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine condemned the presence of the Russian flag at the Venice Film Festival.
This is stated in a joint commentary by the departments.
“The festival began with the screening of the first tragicomedy of its own authorship. Under this flag, Russian soldiers are committing war crimes right now,” the statement said.
The department noted that on August 28, Russia carried out a brutal attack on Kyiv and several other Ukrainian cities, killing at least 21 people, including 4 children. At the same time, the organizers prefer to turn a blind eye to this and further damage the reputation of the festival.
“As long as Russia has the freedom to choose how to continue killing civilians in Ukraine, giving it an international cultural stage is not artistic freedom, but hypocrisy, indifference and support for more terror. The only thing the Venice Film Festival should do now is get rid of Russia’s presence and the Russian flag.” in a statement.
It should be noted that a loud scandal broke out in Venice, where the oldest film festival in the world started on August 27. The tricolor of the Russian Federation appeared among the flags of the participating countries above the main entrance and the red carpet of the festival. Its appearance caused a wave of indignation, because it is under this flag that war crimes against Ukraine are committed every day. Footage from the scene of the incident was distributed online.
