Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha stated that Ukraine may impose sanctions against Hungary following the detention of seven Ukrainian citizens in Budapest . Kyiv considers these actions part of political pressure.

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote about this on his page on the social network X.

According to Sibiga, political statements by Hungarian officials indicate that the detention of the Ukrainians may be connected to the country’s domestic politics.

“Today’s political statements by Hungarian officials indicate that the detention of seven Ukrainian citizens in Budapest was part of blackmail and Hungary’s election campaign,” the minister emphasized.

He also commented on the demands he said were coming from Prime Minister Viktor Orbán .

“Orbán’s current list of demands on Ukraine is particularly telling. This is what usually happens after people are captured: demands are made. We will not tolerate such state-sponsored banditry,” Sybiga noted.

The minister emphasized that Ukraine will not leave such actions unanswered and is considering the possibility of imposing sanctions.

“Anyone involved in the capture and detention of our citizens will be held accountable. We reserve the right to take appropriate measures, including initiating sanctions and other restrictive measures,” the diplomat stated.

As a reminder, Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha stated that Hungarian authorities in Budapest detained seven Ukrainian citizens—Sberbank employees—and seized the money they were transporting.

It’s worth noting that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán visited the country’s anti-terrorism center on the day the Ukrainian armored vehicles transiting Hungary to Ukraine were seized . Later that day, security forces from this unit seized the armored vehicles carrying currency and gold.

As reported, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that Ukrainians refrain from traveling to Hungary.

Subsequently, the media reported that seven Sberbank cash collectors, previously detained in Hungary, were deported from the country.
