Ukraine has a plan in case of large-scale attacks on gas infrastructure by Russia.
This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky, RBC-Ukraine reports .
“We have a plan “A” and a plan “B”. In plan “B”, if there is a strong attack on the entire gas infrastructure, we understand that we then have imports. We understand the volume and cost of the corresponding imports. This is plan “B”. Plan “A” is when we use our production more,” Zelenskyy said.
However, despite the lack of air defense capabilities, Ukraine will protect its energy system.
According to him, there is currently a shortage of interceptors, and there is also a need to expand drone launch systems, which have shown their effectiveness.
“Interceptors are shooting down quite well. For example, the line in the Chernihiv region. There was a report at the Headquarters regarding one of the strikes – 36 “Shaheeds” flew in, 22 were shot down by interceptors. That is, in general, the number of shooting downs is increasing, the number of systems will increase. We are working on this,” Zelenskyy explained.
As is known, Russia has recently intensified attacks on the Ukrainian energy grid, in particular on gas installations , which are key components of the country’s heating system.
As a reminder, amid increasing Russian attacks on the energy system , Ukraine plans to increase gas imports by a third and has already begun negotiations with international partners.
By the way, before the start of the heating season , Russia destroyed 60% of Ukrainian gas production due to large-scale attacks on facilities in the Kharkiv and Poltava regions.
