Ukraine has agreed with Russia to release 1,200 prisoners: details

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov reported on the agreements on the release of Ukrainian citizens from Russian captivity. It is expected that 1,200 people will be released under the Istanbul agreements.

He wrote about this in Telegram .

It is noted that, on behalf of the President of Ukraine, Umerov held consultations through the mediation of partners in Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. The goal of the negotiations was to resume the exchange process and return Ukrainians from Russian captivity.

As a result of the negotiations, the parties agreed to activate the Istanbul agreements, thus providing for the release of 1,200 Ukrainians.

Technical consultations are planned in the near future to consolidate all procedural and organizational aspects.

“We are working without pauses so that Ukrainians who are due to return from captivity can celebrate the New Year and Christmas holidays at home – at the family table and next to their relatives,” Rustem Umerov noted.

By the way, on Thursday, October 2, Ukraine and the Russian Federation exchanged prisoners – 185 defenders returned from Russian captivity.

Zelenskyy previously stated thatthe heads of the Ukrainian and Russian negotiating teams are in constant contact and are preparing a new large-scale prisoner exchange.
