Ukraine has sent an expert team and interceptor drones to help protect U.S. military bases in Jordan, following a request from the United States for assistance.
This is reported byThe New York Times .
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the United States made a request to Ukraine on March 5.
“We reacted immediately. I said: yes, of course, we will send our experts,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The President also noted that Ukraine seeks to assist the countries of the Middle East, but must take into account its own security needs. At the same time, Volodymyr Zelenskyy drew attention to the political context in the region.
“Some Middle Eastern countries have very strong relations with Russia,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
He added that if tensions decrease, Ukraine is ready to provide additional assistance to partners in the region.
“That’s why I said: ‘Listen, maybe they can talk to the Russians, and the Russians will pause. In that case, of course, we can help the Middle East protect them,’” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
On the eve, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine will send a group of experts to the Persian Gulf countries to train the military to shoot down attack drones . The first group of Ukrainian specialists is scheduled to leave for the region on March 9.
It was previously reported that representatives of the US Department of Defense visited Ukraine to discuss the possible use of Ukrainian experience in countering drones . The point is the development of cheaper means of intercepting drones that can be used by the American side.
By the way,the US has officially asked Ukraine to share its experience in intercepting Iranian Shahed strike drones. This is because Iran’s rapid counterattack using cheap and easy-to-manufacture drones after the start of the US-Israeli military campaign demonstrated the vulnerability of the US and its regional allies.
As a reminder, the US and Middle Eastern countries are negotiating with Ukraine to purchase interceptor drones to repel drone attacks from Iran.
