Ukraine has introduced a “transport visa-free regime” with Uzbekistan: what does the agreement provide for?

Ukraine and Uzbekistan have liberalized road freight transportation between the countries. From now on, permits are not required for bilateral and transit road transportation.
This was reported by the Ministry of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine.
On September 30, the corresponding protocol was signed by the Minister of Reconstruction, Infrastructure and Transport of Ukraine Mykola Kalashnyk and the Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Makhkamov.
According to Kalashnik, the transition to a permit-free system should reduce administrative barriers for carriers and promote the development of trade between countries.
“Today, we are taking an important practical step for Ukrainian carriers – we are moving to a permit-free system of bilateral and transit cargo transportation. This reduces the administrative barrier for business, facilitates the work of carriers, and creates better conditions for the development of trade between our countries,” the minister noted.
In 2025, trade turnover between Ukraine and Uzbekistan amounted to about $315 million, which is 14% more than a year earlier. It is expected that the liberalization of freight transportation will create additional opportunities for trade development.
Currently, Ukraine has liberalized freight transportation with 38 countries, including EU member states.
