Ukraine has officially begun mass production of a new generation of cruise missiles called “Flamingo”, which are capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 3,000 kilometers.
This is reported by The Economist.
According to the publication, the missile has a powerful warhead weighing over one ton and is almost entirely — 90% — made of Ukrainian components. The development took only 9 months — its launch was a direct response to the US refusal to transfer Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine.
The cost of one product does not exceed 1 million euros, which makes the Flamingo a cost-effective weapon with high potential.
Fire Point, the company behind the missile, noted that “the enemy will be shocked when Flamingo is put into combat use.”
Currently, production is carried out at a rate of one rocket per day, but capacity is expected to increase to seven rockets per day in the fall.
Recall, missile technology expert Hoffmann assessed the potential of the new weapon: according to him, 3–5 thousand such missiles are capable of destroying more than 25% of Russia’s economic output.
As reported, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that successful tests of the Ukrainian Flamingo missile have already taken place, and its mass production should begin early next year.
