Ukraine has proposed an alternative to the Druzhba pipeline for oil transit to Hungary and Slovakia.
Ukraine has proposed to the European Union to use alternative routes for transporting oil to Hungary and Slovakia instead of the Druzhba pipeline damaged in the Russian attack. Specifically, the possibility of using the Odessa-Brody pipeline is being discussed.
This was reported by European Pravda with reference to a letter from the Ukrainian Mission to the EU dated February 20, 2026, addressed to the Directorate-General for Energy of the European Commission .
The document notes that on January 27, 2026, as a result of targeted attacks by the aggressor state, significant damage was caused to elements of the oil transportation system of Ukraine, in particular to the technological and auxiliary equipment of the Druzhba oil pipeline.
Ukrainian specialists are currently conducting a detailed technical inspection of the damaged equipment and assessing the feasibility of promptly resuming oil transportation along this route. Work to stabilize the system and mitigate the impact of the strikes continues.
At the same time, the letter notes that stable functioning of the infrastructure is only possible if Russia’s massive missile and drone attacks on energy facilities cease.
The Ukrainian side also emphasized that emergency recovery operations are being carried out under the constant threat of further airstrikes.
In order to ensure the security of oil supplies to EU countries, in particular Hungary and Slovakia, Ukraine proposed considering the use of existing oil transportation infrastructure.
The issue is about organizing transportation either through an internal pipeline system or by sea, followed by transshipment at ports and pumping oil through the Odessa-Brody pipeline to EU member states.
It was previously reported that Hungary blocked the agreed-upon 90 billion euro European Union loan for Ukraine.
