Ukraine has submitted its embroidered shirt to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
Ukraine has officially submitted the Ukrainian embroidered shirt to the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
This was reported by the Minister of Culture of Ukraine, Tatyana Berezhnaya.
According to her, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Permanent Delegation of Ukraine to UNESCO have already submitted the relevant dossier to the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage for consideration. The next step will be a review of the Ukrainian nomination by international experts.
“Embroidered shirts are one of the most powerful symbols of Ukrainian identity. They unite generations, regions, and millions of Ukrainians around the world. Each design embodies a century of Ukrainian history, traditions, and cultural burdens,” Berezhnaya noted.
The minister noted that for many Ukrainians, the vyshyvanka is part of the most important moments in life and is passed down from generation to generation as a symbol of connection to home and national culture.
