Ukraine-Hungary: announcement and prediction of the Nations League match

The national teams of Ukraine and Hungary will play a match of the 1st round of the 2026/27 Nations League in Budapest on September 25. The match at the Puskás Aréna will start at 21:45 Kyiv time, and for Andrea Maldera it will be the first official match at the head of the Ukrainian national team.

The Hungarian national team is approaching the match after an unsuccessful qualification for the 2026 World Cup. Marco Rossi’s team took 3rd place in the qualifying group and did not even make it to the playoffs.

In the last Nations League, the Hungarians played in Division A, but after losing to Turkey in the play-offs, they were relegated to Division B.

Marco Rossi has reduced the Hungarian national team’s squad from 26 to 23 players. Defenders Aron Doktorić and Bence Varkonyi, as well as striker József Szalai, are left out of the squad.

Ukraine is approaching the match after a change of head coach. After the end of the contract with Serhiy Rebrov, the team was led by Italian Andrea Maldera.

The match will start at 21:45 Kyiv time, and the live broadcast will be available on the MEGOGO Football 1 channel.

• Midfielders – Volodymyr Brazhko, Andriy Yarmolenko, Heorhiy Sudakov, Maksym Khlan, Oleksandr Nazarenko, Oleg Ocheretko, Yehor Nazaryna.
• Forwards – Igor Krasnopir, Vladyslav Vanat, Danylo Sikan, Viktor Tsygankov, Oleksandr Zubkov, Matviy Ponomarenko.

The Ukrainians will play in yellow uniforms, with the goalkeeper in white. The Hungarian national team will take to the field in red uniforms, with its goalkeeper in blue.

In the history of the confrontation, the teams have met twice – both matches took place in 1992. Ukraine lost to Hungary in Uzhhorod with a score of 1:3, and in the away match they lost 1:2.

In Group B2 of the Nations League, Ukraine and Hungary will also face Georgia and Northern Ireland. After the match in Budapest, the Ukrainian national team will play Georgia on September 28, Northern Ireland on October 2, and Hungary for the second time on October 5.

It was previously reported that on September 25, the match day of the 1st round of the UEFA Nations League of the 2026/27 season will take place – eight matches are scheduled in three divisions of the tournament. The main event of the day for Ukrainian fans will be the match of the Ukrainian national team against Hungary in Budapest.
