Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga responded to the Russian attack on the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra in Kyiv. Ukraine is initiating procedures within UNESCO and calling on the international community to respond decisively.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Sybiga stated that after the damage to the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, Ukraine will urgently begin all necessary procedures within the framework of UNESCO and other international mechanisms.
According to the minister, the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, which is one of the largest Christian shrines and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was hit.
Sybiga emphasized that Kyiv’s shrines have been repeatedly attacked throughout history, and now Ukraine is dealing with Russian troops who have damaged cultural heritage.
The minister also called on international institutions and world capitals to provide an appropriate response to the event.
“We urgently initiate all relevant procedures within UNESCO and all other international mechanisms, demanding an immediate and adequate response to this state barbarity. We expect a decisive reaction from international institutions and capitals. No vague words, silence, or weak steps. Action is needed to stop Russian barbarity,” said Sibiga.
In other words, on the night of June 15, Russian troops launched a massive attack on Kyiv using ballistic missiles and drones. The shelling killed 4 people and injured at least 23 others, including a child. A separate fire was recorded on the territory of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra . According to the mayor, the roof of the Assumption Cathedral caught fire.
The day before, it became known that in the Kovpakiv district of Sumy, a Russian “Molniya” drone hit a multi-story residential building . Three people were injured in the attack, including an 11-year-old girl.
It was previously reported that Russian troops attacked the Dnipro and several districts of the Dnipropetrovsk region at night with drones, artillery, missiles and aerial bombs . The shelling injured two people and damaged enterprises, educational institutions, residential buildings and infrastructure.
