Ukraine is better prepared for winter, but everything will depend on air defense – DTEK

Ukraine, in anticipation of its fifth winter since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, has done everything possible to restore power-generating capacity, accumulate reserves, and strengthen the security of its energy system.

DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko announced this on LinkedIn.

He said he had held briefings for journalists and met with representatives of the diplomatic community in Kyiv in recent days to discuss the readiness of the Ukrainian energy system for the heating season.

Timchenko emphasized that the main goal is to prevent a repeat of the extremely difficult situation that developed last winter.

“Our goal is simple: to do everything possible to avoid a winter as harsh as last year,” he said, calling it the most serious threat of the war.

The CEO of DTEK highlighted three key points.

Firstly, over the past year, Ukraine has learned from previous experience and strengthened its preparations: it has restored some capacity, accumulated necessary reserves, and strengthened the security of energy facilities. Therefore, according to Timchenko, the country is entering the new winter stronger and better prepared than last year.

Secondly, air defense remains the decisive factor determining the impact of Russian attacks on the population and the economy.

At the same time, Timchenko noted that even amid the war, Ukraine continues to build a more resilient energy system. He expressed confidence that after the war ends, the country will have one of the most modern energy systems in Europe.
