The commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, Brigadier General Oleksandr Pivnenko, said that Ukraine could fight for several more years. According to him, the strategic goal remains the return of territories, but now the priority is survival and a ceasefire.

This is reported by the BBC .

Oleksandr Pivnenko emphasized that victory in military terms involves the return of the occupied territories, even if this takes a long time.

“A victory for Ukraine in military terms is, of course, taking back its territories. I understand that this may not be the time today, but potentially for the future. I understand that it may take several decades – it doesn’t matter,” said Oleksandr Pivnenko.

He emphasized that the return of territories is a strategic task for the government and the population, but currently the top priority is a ceasefire and the preservation of the state.

When asked about the possibility of territorial concessions, the general replied that this was “impossible at this time.”

“The ceasefire along the contact line is another story that we can understand. And no one will give up territory,” said Oleksandr Pivnenko.

At the same time, he noted that in the event of an order from the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, the military will carry it out, since Ukraine is a state governed by the rule of law.

The NGU commander stated that to achieve an advantage, the Ukrainian army needs more weapons, including long-range missiles.

“These could be long-range missiles, in order to destroy command posts, destroy their pilots, as they do with their planes, their KABs, which, unfortunately, we do not have in such quantity and volume to give a response,” said Oleksandr Pivnenko.

He added that at the tactical level, Ukrainian forces have a sufficient number of weapons and drones, but at operational depth they need weapons similar to HIMARS.

Oleksandr Pivnenko also acknowledged the lack of personnel to conduct full-fledged rotations.

“So that we have a second set of troops, for example, and we can calmly do rotations, set after set, give people a rest, give them vacations. Unfortunately, we don’t have this in full,” he noted.

The NGU commander said that the war has changed significantly due to the massive use of drones, which has significantly complicated the movement of infantry.

“That is, I saw all these transitions. And in principle, it was possible to act calmly until the drones appeared. Now the infantryman is the number one target. His movement has become a hundred times more complicated,” said Oleksandr Pivnenko.

The general noted that Russian troops are quickly adapting to war conditions.

“I believe that the enemy is very strong and learns quickly,” he emphasized.

Answering a question about the duration of the war, Oleksandr Pivnenko stated that Ukraine is able to continue its defense with the support of partners.

“We can defend ourselves for a year or two. Of course, with the help of our partners: European, United States,” he said.

He also disagreed with Donald Trump’s statement that without a quick ceasefire, Ukraine would lose the war.

“Well, not exactly. We can still fight for a few more years 100%. But I believe that in general, wars should end,” said Oleksandr Pivnenko.

According to the commander, the main issue for Ukraine remains the price of a possible end to the war.

“Either it’s a ceasefire, I think everyone will agree to it. And then rethinking further actions and agreements. Or the loss of territory. Let’s put it this way, we won’t give anything away, I’m sure,” he concluded.

By the way, the commander of the platoon of the 10th separate mountain assault brigade “Edelweiss” Stepan Barna said that any conflicts within the country and the lack of unity at the political level create new opportunities for enemy advancement, so Ukrainian society needs to adapt to a long-term confrontation .

Earlier it was reported that Russia is preparing for new offensive operations on several front lines and is intensifying strikes on the Ukrainian rear. The report of the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) states that Russian troops have intensified offensive operations in the east and south of Ukraine. According to experts, Russian units are advancing near Pokrovsk, as well as in the Kostyantynivka-Druzhkivka tactical zone of Donetsk region.
