Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Mykhailo Podolyak stated that Ukraine does not accept any scenarios for exchanging territories with Russia and considers Article 5 of NATO insufficient for security guarantees.

This is reported by La Repubblica .

He emphasized that even in the event of a freeze on the war, Kyiv reserves the right to return the occupied lands using diplomatic, economic, and other tools.

Podoliak voiced Kyiv’s position on possible formats for resolving the war with Russia. According to him, Ukraine will not make compromises that involve exchanging territories and considers any attempts to legalize the seizure of Ukrainian lands unacceptable.

Podoliak emphasized that even in the event of a temporary freeze of the conflict on the front line, the occupied territories will remain legally Ukrainian. In the future, their return should take place through economic pressure, diplomatic efforts and other means, without recognizing Russian control.

Separately, the presidential advisor drew attention to the NATO collective defense system. He stated that Article 5 of the Washington Treaty, which provides for consultations and assistance in the event of an attack on one of the Alliance countries, is in practice insufficient for security guarantees. According to Podoliak, Ukraine needs clearer and automatic mechanisms for intervention by partners in the event of new aggression by Russia.

“Ukraine cannot afford to remain in a gray zone without clear guarantees. We must be sure that in the event of an attack, partners will act automatically, and not just discuss the possibility of assistance,” Podoliak noted.

Recall that US President Donald Trump, during a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders, stated that the Russian dictator’s plans for Donbas remained unchanged.

Earlier, Donald Trump promised European leaders that during his meeting with Putin he would not talk about the territories of Ukraine , but would insist on an unconditional ceasefire.
